It Was a Thing on TV is on the March to WrestleMania and bringing to you the first of two special wrestling themed episodes for the PTB Wrestling Network. Our first episode covers a very special episode of Quantum Leap where Greg, Chico and Mike talk about the time Dr. Sam Beckett lept into the Georgia territory in 1955 as part of a Russian tag team to prevent his brother from dying in the ring.
Over the course of the episode Sam and Al try to stop this from happening while encountering a crazed Terry Funk who's wife tries to make the moves on Sam. OH BOY! This is the midway point of the list looking at #20-#16. The boys use Kensuke Sasaki vs Toshiaki Kawada, New Japan vs All Japan dream match as a case study in pro wrestling pride, Kawada as a chameleon, the difference between “how” vs “why” in wrestling and the very famous Kobashi vs Sasaki Dome match that didn’t make either of our lists, but was worthy of discussion. Wikipedia says Hiro Saito invented the Senton, but this seems off to Mike & Marty. So Pro Wrestling Lovers who invented the Senton? Let us know! Mike is a long time contributor on the PWO Forums at DaWho5. Mike explains the story behind his name, DaWho5, it is not because he is a big fan of the Anvil. Mike has a profound statement that Kawada does not really has his own match structure but instead adapts to others’ frameworks. Marty breaks down the difference between “no-selling” and “not selling” and the importance of “how” and “why” in pro wrestling. They cap it off with them gushing about how excellent the KENTA vs SUWA match was and the genius of the storytelling, the action and the character work. Pro Wrestling Love extends its stay in Japan after a thrilling mini-series on Shoot Style, Marty “Superstar” Sleeze welcomes Mike aka DaWho5 on the Pro Wrestling Only Forums to begin their countdown of the 25 Best Matches to take place in Japan between 2000-2009. Mike & Marty on the PWO forums back in 2013 when the Best of Japan 2000s project was all the rage and they are bringing their love for the time period to the airwaves. This is Mike’s first ever podcast so he introduces himself to the Place to be Nation audience. 90s All Japan comes up a lot as many wrestlers of the first decade of the new millennium seemed to be chasing that dragon. They discuss the feel good match of the decade, Kobashi’s return to the Budokan after defeating cancer and the emotion of that match. Mike breaks down an excellent heel vs heel match between Yoshihiro Takayama and Yoshinari Ogawa. Marty asks the philosophical question, “Does it count as selling if your eye is actually swelling?”.
