Tis the season! In this episode of With This Ring, Cindy and Ryan continue their journey through 1998 with the Granddaddy of them all, WrestleMania XIV. DIscussion includes Tag battle royals, the rise of the Rock continues, is the DX band Star Spangled Banner/America the Beautiful the worst performance in WrestleMania history, They then look at the Raw after WrestleMania, one of the first truly big Raws after WrestleMania. We took about the new belts, Steve Austin’s first of many trips to jail, the Rock rising even higher and the new and “improved” DX, including a brutal cage match for Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie. In this episode of With This Ring, we put a final bow on the GWWE list and start our new project of the year, reviewing 1998 WWF.
We begin our look at one of the most pivotal years in wrestling history with a double feature, looking at both Royal Rumble and No Way Out: Of Texas 1998. We talk about mini’s, Goldust’s transformation, the emergence of the Rock, how hot Stone Cold Steve Austin is, Mick Foley’s historic Rumble, Mike Tyson and another Undertaker death. We then quickly look at the Cactus Jack/Chainsaw Charlie match that led to attempted murder via dumpster, before moving onto No Way Out.
We talk about how No Way Out completed its job of being a bridge towards WrestleMania, but putting all the big stars in one main event leads to a lot of filler on the mid-card. We also talk about how great of a surprise Caribbean legend Savio Vega is. Enjoy the show!
